April 25 is International Noise Awareness Day

Are you “Noise Aware”?

April 25 is International Noise Awareness Day. You are encouraged to pay attention to the bothersome noise where you live, work or play and do something about it.

Excessive and loud noise can harm our health in many ways and is a major cause of hearing loss.  Exposure to noise and high sound levels can result in noise-induced hearing loss (NIHL) and tinnitus, or a ringing in the ears.

Noise pollution is an on-going problem in places across the world. Individuals and communities are invited to address the issue of noise in their local areas.  Learn more about noise reduction efforts you can make on the Center for Hearing and Commmunication website.

The awareness day was created in 1996 by the Center for Hearing and Communication to raise awareness of noise on the welfare and health of people. It is celebrated on the last Wednesday of April yearly.
