Best Practices When Caring for Your Rechargeable Hearing Aids

Hearing Aid

Cleaned your hearing aids recently?

If you can’t remember the last time that your hearing aids were thoroughly cleaned then they are probably long overdue. Contact Sound Hearing Care to make an appointment and have one of our hearing care specialists professionally clean your hearing aids.

Your hearing aids make your life easier and more enjoyable. The investment you put into them shouldn’t be at risk by improper usage, which includes charging your hearing aids. Review some of these best practices so you can take care of them properly.

Charge your hearing aid batteries daily

If there are times throughout the day when you aren’t using your hearing aids, we recommend putting them in the charger so the batteries can fully charge again. If you let the batteries fully drain, then they will take much longer to charge and they might not be ready to use when you need them.

Don’t open and close the battery door

When you get a low-battery warning or your hearing aids shut down due to low power, don’t open and close the battery door in an attempt to reboot your hearing aids. If you repeatedly open and close the battery door then it can damage the battery performance.

Store your batteries correctly when not in use

When you know you won’t be using your batteries for an extended amount of time (more than a couple weeks), then you can remove them from the hearing aids. Make sure they are stored somewhere that they won’t touch each other, such as a container with divided sections. Leaving the battery door open on your hearing aids, even when you aren’t using them, will deplete the battery.

Maintain your hearing aids

It is important that you clean and dry your hearing aids regularly. We recommend cleaning them nightly, right before you put them in the charging dock for the evening. Cleaning your hearing aids on a regular basis prevents dust and debris from building up. The soft brush that came with your hearing aids is perfect for removing and debris from your hearing aids and the charging wells.
